Montlake Exteriors
Blue Sound completed two exterior projects in the Montlake area. The first, a 12x20 foot ipe deck, faced multiple constraints: the need for head height on the lower level, a constricted lot size, and the requirement to adequately child proof the railing while maintaining the desired modern look. With careful planning and design, Blue Sound incorporated stunning details: a railing that features "bolts as buttons," a well orchestrated threshold piece that extends across the stairs and perfectly accounts for length of ipe available, and framing that conserves head height.
On the bungalow, the homeowner wished to turn the lovely porch into a genuine living space. Benches offer maximum seating potential without losing the connection with the garden, but their considerable span required careful planning and ingenuitive fasteners.
